Conversation Club Leeds went to The Chevin (hills) at Otley to enjoy the autumn countryside walking along paths and trails. We left Leeds in the morning from the bus station on a regular service bus. The weather was mild when we left – not raining or windy, but a little dull. It took about an hour to reach the base of The Chevin. We found that the weather was really suitable for walking in the woods and in the beautiful Otley Chevin Country Park.
We learnt about some of the natural history and heritage from the information boards and from the volunteers. When we reached about halfway we split into two groups. Some set out for the top of the hill on an 8km walk and others stayed lower, allowing more time to enjoy Otley. We had a rest and talked and got to know each other and had a snack with coffee. At noon, we continued walking until we reached the rocks at the top of the hill to enjoy the breathtaking view of the town of Otley and the landscape beyond. Then we headed down for our picnic and on to the town centre to explore and rejoin the rest of the group before returning to Leeds.
