Outing to Hebden Bridge, April 2025

On 1st April, 2025, members of CCL met at Leeds railway station for an outing to Hebden Bridge. We enjoyed a 40-minute train ride through the beautiful landscapes of West Yorkshire.

In Hebden Bridge we had a picnic in the park in warm spring sunshine. This offered an excellent opportunity for conversation, practising new vocabulary and strengthening our community bonds.

After lunch, the group divided into two to go to Heptonstall, either by bus or on foot up the steep path. We were rewarded with breathtaking views of the blossoming countryside, making the effort truly worthwhile.

In Heptonstall, some visited the historic St. Thomas the Apostle Church, which houses a remarkable copy of Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper”, an interesting find in this quiet village. Others explored the adjacent ruin of St Thomas à Becket Church. Many guests were intrigued by the burial ground and gravestones. including the grave of Sylvia Plath, the acclaimed American poet. Volunteers provided explanations about the village’s history, enhancing our understanding of the area.

The excursion offered a perfect blend of physical activity, cultural enrichment, and social interaction, leaving us with cherished memories and a deeper appreciation of the region’s heritage.

CCL is grateful for financial support for this event from MICE grants (Leeds City Councillors).
