Arriving in a UK city as an asylum seeker can be a difficult, if not overwhelming, experience. Everything is different – the culture, the buildings and of course the language.

Conversation Club Leeds is a small charity which helps asylum seekers and refugees to make friends, practise speaking English and gain confidence in their new surroundings.

Part of our work is also to signpost our ‘guests’ to professional organisations that can help them.

We aim to make everyone feel welcome in our country and our city, wherever they have come from and whatever their story. We also aim to provide friendship and support in an asylum system which is often hostile and difficult to navigate, especially for those who have been traumatised by previous experiences and who speak little English.
