Half-term family outing to Haworth
On a grey February morning 10 children and 7 adults from CCL set out for Haworth. We took the train to Keighley, then the Brontëbus to Haworth. Train ticket inspectors, bus drivers and passers-by were all eager to help us on our way, directing us and contributing to our enjoyment.
Even the perma-drizzle couldn’t detract from the quaintness and appeal of the steep cobbled road and curiosity shops on Main Street, Haworth. One of the teenagers revelled with delight as she realised she’d be visiting the home of the author of Jane Eyre, which she’d read at school. One young child was struck by the hills around Howarth and others enjoyed the friendliness of dogs and dog owners.
The Parsonage staff engaged young and old with activities and explanations, bringing to life the world of the amazing, gifted and courageous sisters. The younger children loved the activity sheets and everyone enjoyed the dressing up clothes, especially the hats.
On our descent down Main Street the rain abated. At Central Park we settled on benches and in the band stand, to rest and share our packed lunches before returning to Leeds.
